Bunion Surgery

What You Should Know Before Considering Bunion Sugery

Many times modification of shoe gear can alleviate the pain of bunion deformities. There are many types of surgical procedures used to correct bunion deformities. Depending on the procedure your surgeon chooses, recuperation from bunion surgery can take between three weeks to six months. Bunion surgery is not primarily a cosmetic surgical procedure and should only be considered if you are having pain that cannot be relieved by changing shoe gear.

If you wear high heel shoes, understand that bunion surgery SHOULD relieve your pain BUT narrow high heels may continue to irritate the area.

If You are Still Considering Having Bunion Surgery

Complications from bunion surgery are rare, but you should be aware of the more common problems we have encountered over the years. All swelling is usually resolved by eight weeks, however, we have seen cases where it takes six months or longer. Motion in your great toe joint may be decreased after bunion surgery; therefore, it is very important that you follow your doctors' instructions after surgery to prevent this stiffness.
